End User (survey respondent) Requirements
End users should be able to access eSurveys.com.au on Internet
Explorer 5+ or Netscape 6+ Internet Browsers with Javascript
and cookies enabled. They will also need a reliable Internet
connection (56K modem is adequate).
Online surveys can sometimes have problems and many issues are often beyond the control of our survey system. For example, some people may have different settings in their browsers (Cookies off, JavaScript off etc) that may affect access to a survey. Others may have older computers, slow internet connection, firewall protection, inadequate ram, old operating systems etc. All of which can affect performance on a survey and cause possible errors.
We check that the survey can work on a multiple number of browsers and operating systems, but we cannot vouch the survey will work on every computer. However, out of the many hundreds of thousands of respondents that have used the system to date, only a very small number of problems have occurred and many of those have been attributable to things outside of our control.
We suggest that respondents upgrade their browser to a new version, such as Internet Explorer 6. This is available free from http://www.microsoft.com/ie/
We also suggest that security settings in a respondent's browser are not set to the highest security setting and that Cookies and JavaScript are enabled.
We also suggest that a respondent's computer is at least a Pentium 3 500MHz (or equivalent) and has 128MB of RAM, running a windows 2000 or XP operating system.
Finally we suggest that adequate pilot testing to identify any technical issues is undertaken and a hard copy of the survey is available for users as a backup.
